Voters Against Incumbents

VAI_LogoSeptember 17, 2009, Seattle Washington. The grass roots political organization called, VotersAgainstIncumbents.org, stepped up to the political pitchers mound to say, we’re going to strike out all of the politicians in the “league.”  Bring on your political all-stars, the heavy hitters and even the “switch hitters”; no one gets a walk from this group.

So, what is VotersAgainstIncumbents.org all about?  We’re a grass roots political organization of voters who have finally declared we’re through with Washington insider politics.

In order to survive in Washington even the most idealistic representatives must bow to their party’s existing political machine. Most don’t even have a “seat at the table” until they’ve been elected to their post more than once.  Further, if they don’t vote the party line for the most part they are doomed to the Washington sidelines.

What is our strategy? It’s really quite simple.  In three voting cycles the citizens of the United States will take back control of Washington politics, sending representatives to Congress who will vote as their constituents want.  Here is our plan:

Year 0 – 2010
Vote Against Incumbents. We’re not suggesting you vote against your party, just against the sitting incumbent.  This will replace 1/3 of all senators, and all members of the House of Representatives.

Year 2 – 2012
Vote Against Incumbents. Again, vote your party or not, just vote against the sitting incumbent.  This will replace the next 1/3 of all senators, and all members of the House of Representatives again. This election will also replace the sitting incumbent President.  Of all the offices this is the LEAST important to replace in our view, so we’re not particularly dogmatic regarding this office.

Year 4 – 2014
Vote Against Incumbents. Vote your party or not, just vote against the sitting incumbent.  This will replace the final 1/3 of all senators, and all members of the House of Representatives one final time.

What’s the up-take?  All of Congress will be completely turned over in just four years.  Gone are the long standing alliances, gone are the deep political war chests, gone are the career politicians.   Back in control, are the citizens of this country. Back in Congress, representatives that fully understand whom they represent.

  • For now it’s an idea with merit, a workable plan. There are enough discontented voters from both sides of the aisle that we can get traction. Other than the Internet, real world organization will take an infusion of money. I’m not yet fully organized to start a campign for monetary resources. Each incumbent that decides not to run again, or gets voted out supports the view that the time is right.
